MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES

You cannot pour from an empty cup...

Being an RVT can be one of the most rewarding, engaging, challenging and fulfilling careers, but it can also be difficult, heartbreaking, and take an emotional toll.

Those who seek a career in veterinary medicine are compassionate, caring people, and are often dealing with the extreme highs and lows of others’ lives. RVTs and DVMs would not be able to do their job effectively if they could not relate and feel for their patients, but that level of empathy can also leave one open to the hurt and loss that inevitably comes with it.

Over time this can take a significant toll on one’s mental health and can, unfortunately, lead to compassion fatigue, burnout, depression and in some cases, suicide.

If you are struggling, know that you are not alone, and resources are available to help.
